The existing slate roof covering to the Old Bainbridge Building in Skinnergate, Darlington had been installed over 120 years ago, but after numerous repairs and most recently a coating of bituminous paint and mineral felt over the existing slates, the current building owners decided it was time the roof was renewed.
Tegula Roofing (part of Group Tegula) were selected to complete the work, scaffolding was erected, and the work commenced on the 28th of November 2022.
Following on from timber repairs to various areas of the roof structure, the new roof covering was installed.
The new roof covering comprising of Proctor Roofshield Breather Membrane, 50mm x 25mm Treated / Graded Battens, and 400mm x 25mm Gallegas 39 ( Cupa ) Grade A Spanish Slates were installed, this was to include the renewal of all leadworks, and rainwater goods.
Completing the project over the winter period certainly added to the challenge, with periods of snow, rain, and high winds, but we battled through and completed the work in March, on time and within budget, with the client over the moon with the work.
