Group Tegula refurbished the roof of BT’s Depot in Northallerton, solving a long-term water ingress problem.
The roof, comprising 4,500 square meters of asbestos cement sheets was in a poor condition, with vegetation springing out of the roof.
The project scope included cleaning the asbestos cement sheeting roof using the closed head system. This method is best practice (according to the HSE Guidelines and in Asbestos at work Regulations 2012 in relation to Non licenced Asbestos work) and ensured that the asbestos particles were fully contained, preventing the particles becoming friable and airborne or getting into the drainage system and water course.
The roof work was undertaken on a live and busy warehouse, so managing the safety of the pubic was paramount. Key to this was the installation of debris and safety netting under the warehouse roof to protect BT warehouse operatives from risk of falling object or particles.
The contract award was a direct result of the quality of the refurbishment works completed in the previous phase of the project.
The roof is covered by a SIKA 15-year Guarantee.
