Group Tegula are proud to play their part in promoting occupations in construction, and specifically roofing, as an opportunity for both men and women.
Despite the UK having a higher percentage of women in construction than our neighbours in Europe and indeed the US, it’s still quite low at only 14%, and that’s something we want to help improve.
The low numbers are put down to a number of reasons, but they include a lack of awareness of the possibility of a career in the construction industry.
And that’s why Chantel Daniels, one of our apprentices, recently attended SkillsBuild in Glasgow to do demonstrations at the NFRC stand in an attempt to attract more women into roofing.
SkillBuild, is the largest multi-trade skills competition in the UK for construction trainees and apprentices, and is often described as “the UK’s construction’s Olympics”
The competition covers a wide range of skills from across the construction industry, including Roofing: Slating and Tiling, and whilst we didn’t have any of our apprentices competing, what better place to promote the growing role of women in our industry.

The National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC) , the UK’s largest roofing trade association, has a history spanning over 130 years.
The NFRC has established itself as the voice of the roofing industry, and is committed to promoting roofing as a skilled, professional career for both men and women, which is why they asked if Chantelle could help support their message at SkillsBuild 2022.
